GARY ANDERSON followed up on his Coral UK Open victory last weekend as he won Players Championship 3 in Barnsley on Saturday afternoon. The Scot produced some phenomenal performances to pick up the £10,000 prize and his second title win of 2018 so far.
But, it wasn’t all straight forward for the World no.4 as he trailed 5-1 in his opening match against Terry Jenkins, but the two-time World champion rallied to win five legs on-the-spin to see off Jenkins 6-5. Anderson then went on to secure 6-4 victories over Gary Eastwood and Simon Stevenson.
As the day progressed, Anderson really started to find his best form, he annihilated the World champion Rob Cross in a 6-0 victory with a superb average of 108.7! Anderson then went on to complete a convincing 6-3 victory over Steve Hine, Anderson’s finest display of the day has to be his Semi-Final victory over Jamie Lewis, Lewis had hit a nine-dart leg earlier in the day, and it looked like Anderson was going to replicate that very same feat as he hit seven perfect darts. Anderson won 6-3 in the end with an average just short of 110.
In the final, Anderson produced some magnificent form as he completely demolished the World no.2 Peter Wright as he blew the Mendham-ace away. The final lasted just 11 minutes as the UK Open champion cruised to a 6-0 victory to claim the title.
