By Tom Beresford

Jonny Clayton was crowned the Austrian Darts Open Champion on Sunday evening in Graz. ‘The Ferret’ enjoyed a superb 8-5 victory over fellow Welshman Gerwyn Price in the final.

Clayton recovered from a 4-3 & 5-4 deficit as he won four out of the last five legs to close out a superb win. Clayton pocketed a cool £25,000 following the win as he cemented his place in the World Cup of Darts alongside Gerwyn Price. Clayton has quite a record against ‘The Iceman’. He defeated Price in the World Championships a few years ago at Alexandra Palace. Clayton’s been in some great form over the past 18 months, he claimed his first PDC ranking title last year at a Players Championship event in Barnsley after overcoming James Wilson, he then went on to reach the final of the Players Championship finals in Minehead losing out to Peter Wright narrowly.

On his way to lifting the Austrian Darts Masters Crown, Clayton came through quite a field of players including the likes of : Max Hopp 6-3, James Wade 6-3, Ian White 6-4, Mensur Suljovic 7-6 before defeating Gerwyn Price 8-5.
