BDO World Darts Championships results: Wins for Scott Mitchell and Glen Durrant; Dave Parletti picked off by Krzysztof Kciuk

Glen Durrant made a winning start to his quest to win the Lakeside crown for a third successive year after a solid 3-0 victory over Mark McGrath.

The Teesider is bidding to become the first man since Eric Bristow way back in 1984-86 to lift this prestigious trophy three years on the trot and this performance underlined why he’s the clear tournament favourite.

Durrant missed out on achieving the same feat in the World Masters last year when losing to Adam Smith-Neale, who limped out of this tournament on crutches during his defeat to New Zealand’s McGrath two nights ago, but he’ll be confident of going close to another history-making feat.

The 48-year-old three seven 180s and averaged 93.90 throughout a one-sided contest in which he only dropped three legs while he completed his victory with a match high checkout of 116.

A review of Tuesday action at the BDO World Darts Championships, as Glen Durrant and Scott Mitchell both won but Dave Parletti failed to live up to expectations.

Former champion Scott Mitchell produced one of the standout performances of the BDO World Darts Championship so far, dismissing Oliver Ferenc 3-0.

The Serbian qualifier couldn't live with Mitchell, whose performance here conjured memories of that fabulous 2015 success as he took the first six legs without reply.

Ferenc found his feet in the third set but it was too late, a second maximum helping Mitchell to a 14-dart deciding leg and a one-sided whitewash.

With an average of 94.64, Mitchell's performance will not go unnoticed - especially with a potential semi-final meeting with favourite Glen Durrant on the horizon.

"I watched Oliver's game, and I knew if he had a dart at a double he would get it - it was mental that I had to score big, big, big, to get there first," said Mitchell.

Referring to the support he receives, he said: "There's a lady here, I dropped a BMX through her kitchen window when I was nine... this is what the BDO is for people, we're just real people with real people around us."

Looking ahead, he added: "You've just got to do your best every time, and these people will always love you."

Krzysztof Kciuk caused an upset as his dream Lakeside debut continued with a 3-1 victory over Dave Parletti and will face Mitchell for a quarter-final place.

Kciuk beat Brian Lokken in their preliminary-round game to earn a crack at the 11th seed, but wasn't expected to cause many problems for Parletti, sent off a well-backed 4/11 favourite.

However, while there were glimpses of what the Englishman can do, notably a 140 checkout to take second set after losing the first, Kciuk was ultimately an easy winner.

The highlight for the Polish player was a 143 checkout which broke the heart of Parletti in the fourth and final set, though an average of 85.93 suggests he'll do well to lay a glove on Mitchell.

Scott Baker took out 103 to seal a comfortable 3-0 victory over Lakeside veteran Ross Montgomery.

'The Mod' struggled for much of the match on doubles, which kept Montgomery interested, but heavy scoring throughout meant he was able to get away with it.

Things are likely to get tougher in the second round where he could face Durrant.

There was a five-set thriller between Chris Landman and Kyle McKinstry, with McKinstry securing victory.

David Cameron kept up his recent good form with a 3-1 victory over BDO veteran Gary Robson.

Cameron averaged over 100 in the opening set, although a 99 checkout ensured Robson levelled up the scores after two.

The Canadian went from strength-to-strength though, with a finish on double eight booking his spot in the next round.

In the women's draw, title hopeful Aileen De Graaf beat Paula Jacklin 2-0 to earn a quarter-final meeting with Anastasia Dobromyslova.

Lorraine Winstanley was pushed to three sets by Casey Gallagher, although the former Winmau World Master made it through with a 2-1 victory.
